EDMONTON, AB –The Edmonton Rush announce today a restructuring to the management of the National Lacrosse League franchise.
Rush Owner/Governor Bruce Urban is pleased to name Gord Sawyer as the Team’s new President. Duane Vienneau, who held the position of President since the Team’s inception, has resigned from his position as Team President but will remain with the club to assist in a healthy transition.
“Duane did an excellent job in shaping the foundation of the Rush from the very beginning particularly in the day-to-day operations,” noted Urban. “Entering our fifth NLL season in 2010, we now need to focus on an aggressive sales approach and building new ties to the business community in Edmonton. Gord’s strength is sales and I anticipate the Rush will have many new and exciting initiatives for next season under his direction.”
Sawyer, a native of Alberta, joins the Rush after a long and successful career in media sales. His career began with The Albertan before moving on to The Globe & Mail where he helped spearhead the launch of the national satellite editions in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Following a stint with the marketing department of Rogers Cable in Calgary, Sawyer joined the Calgary Sun sales department and held both account executive and management positions for 25 years.
“I am excited about joining the Rush and for having the opportunity to take some bold steps forward with this team,” said Sawyer. “The team is very close to realizing its potential both on and off the floor and our goal is to make the Rush a great product that the fans of Edmonton will be proud of.”
