Leading the way for the Rush was Cam Bergman (1G, 3A), Jamey Bowen (2G, 1A), and Darren Hillier (2G, 1A). The Rock were lead by Josh Sanderson (1G, 7A), who now has 19 points against the Rush in 2 games, Colin Doyle (2G, 5A), and Aaron Wilson (4G).
The Rush got the opening goal 2:16 in on a 2 on 1 finished off by Rory Glaves, his first goal of the season. The Rock didn't get their first shot on goal until almost 5 minutes in to the game, but Blaine Manning scored on their second shot to even it up. Nine minutes into the game the Rush were out-shooting the Rock 8-4, but the red hot Aaron Wilson put the Rock ahead 2-1. With a minute left in the 1st quarter the Rush capitalized on the power play to tie it up.
The second quarter saw the Rush get ahead 4-2 on goals by Darren Hillier and Kevin Howard, but the Rock battled back to tie it up on power-play goals by Josh Sanderson and Colin Doyle. The momentum shifted, the Rush continued their penalty troubles, taking 4 in a row, and the Rock continued their man-advantage dominance going ahead on another goal by Colin Doyle. The Rush came back though, just 43 seconds later, to tie it up on a high-flying goal by Jimmy Quinlan. A solid effort by both teams in the first half left the teams tied at 5.
Working on an early power-play to start the 3rd quarter the Rush went ahead on a goal by Randy Daly. The Rock quickly bounced back though with a goal by Matt Taylor. The Rush's Kevin Howard then took a hard shot that hit Rock goalie Bob Watson on the head. The goalie was down for a few minutes but stayed in the game. The Rush then broke out, scoring on two breakaways, the first by Darren Hillier, his second of the night, and the second by Cam Bergman, putting the Rush ahead 8-6. The Rock then dominated play, scoring on the power-play in the final minute of the quarter, but timely saves by Pat Campbell kept the Rush ahead to end the 3rd quarter.
Just 19 seconds into the 4th quarter the Rock evened the score but the Rush and Ted Jenner thrust back in front with 10 minutes to play. The Rock and Rush then went back and forth, the Rock continuing to tie it up when the Rush pulled ahead. Tied at 10, the Rush scored a shorthanded goal to go ahead but Aaron Wilson scored his 8th goal in 2 nights and Matt Shearer put the Rock ahead 12-11. The Rush pulled Campbell in the final minute but the Rock solidified their second win in as many nights with an empty net goal. The biggest offensive effort from the Rush so far ends in disappointment ad fall to the Rock 13-11. The Rush fall to 0-6 while the Rock win their 4th in a row and improve to 4-4.
The Rush travel to Calgary to resume the battle of Alberta next Friday at 7:30. The game can be seen on Rogers Sportsnet. The Rush then return home on Saturday, March 4 at 8:00 to battle the Arizona Sting.
