Rush vs Roughnecks

Calgary (CP) - The first win in franchise history for the NLL's expansion Edmonton Rush couldn't have come in more spectacular fashion.

Cam Bergman's fluke goal with 0.1 seconds remaining Friday night gave Edmonton a stunning 12-11 win over the Calgary Roughnecks.

Bergman scooped up a loose ball at centre and, with time running out, ran down the floor and fired a shot at Calgary goaltender Curtis Palidwor. The ball bounced straight out off Palidwor's pad, hit Calgary's Andrew Biers on the leg and bounced into the net as the final buzzer sounded.

It spoiled a torrid comeback by the Roughnecks, who scored four unanswered goals in the game's final five minutes to even the score at 11.

Kyle Goundrey's tying goal coming with just 10 seconds left temporarily sending the Pengrowth Saddledome crowd of 12,025 into what would soon become a short-lived frenzy.

Randy Daly had three goals and two assists for Edmonton (1-6) while Jamey Bowen added a pair of goals.

Edmonton goaltender Pat Campbell was spectacular making 56 saves as Calgary outshot the Rush 67-44.

Leading the scoring for Calgary (3-4) were Lewis Ratcliff with three goals and Tracey Kelusky with a pair.

The see-saw game between the two provincial rivals was tied 7-7 when Edmonton broke open the game with four unanswered goals in a 5:37 span, and then Calgary came roaring back late in the second half with four goals to tie the game.

Notes: Edmonton is now off for two weeks before returning to action Mar. 3 in Colorado. That game will be the first of four games in nine days for the Rush... Calgary plays Saturday night in Arizona and then is off for three weeks before their next action Mar. 11th versus Colorado... The crowd was the largest since 13,355 came out to watch the Roughnecks home opener, which was also against Edmonton... Palidwor passed the 3000 minute mark for his Calgary career... All three of Calgary's wins this year have come against expansion teams (Edmonton twice, Portland once).
