The former University of Virginia lacrosse standout was selected 6th overall in the first round of the 2003 NLL Entry Draft by Buffalo. An Ontario native, Shannon was a stellar indoor player before matriculating at University of Virginia and taking up the outdoor game. Owner of one of the hardest shots in the game, he has played his whole NLL career with the Buffalo Bandits.
In addition to the trade, the Edmonton Rush announced their list of protected players today, in advance of the July 12 NLL Expansion Draft in which new teams from Chicago and New York will build their rosters.
The 2006 Expansion Draft is scheduled for Wednesday, July 12 at 4 p.m. EST. The two new franchises bring the league's total number of teams to 13. Chicago and New York will each select eleven players from the rosters of the existing NLL franchises.
A coin toss between the expansion clubs was held earlier this month at the league's Board of Governors Meetings at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. New York won the coin toss and was given the option of either selecting first in the Expansion Draft or the 2006 Entry Draft. New York chose to select first in the Entry Draft. As a result, the Chicago Shamrox has the first selection in the Expansion Draft
Last year in a similar situation, the Edmonton Rush selected eight players, four of whom (Kevin Howard, Pat Campbell, Brad Dairon and Randy Daly) played in its inaugural season.
