
The San Jose Stelath improved to 4-4 with a win over Edmonton on Saturday. The San Jose Stealth defeated the Edmonton Rush 12-11 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose on Saturday night. The key run in the game for San Jose came in the second quarter when the Stealth scored four unanswered goals, to make a one goal lead blossom to five.
Jeff Zywicki and Ryan Boyle each contributed three goals to the winning cause for the Stealth. Derek Malawsky and Gary Rosyski were important to the team as both players set up their teammates for five goals. Rush forward Kevin Howard led all goal scorers, as he contributed four goals in the loss.
San Jose started off the first quarter very quickly, as they raced out to a 3-0 lead. Luke Wiles, in his first game for San Jose, started off the scoring just 54 seconds into the contest. Fellow rookies, Jeff Zywicki and Jarett Park each contributed a goal shortly there after, giving San Jose an early 3-0 lead. The Rush though held San Jose scoreless the final 11 minutes of the quarter, while tallying two goals of their own. Randy Daly and Jim Quinlan kept Edmonton each scored once, making the score 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter started in the same fashion as San Jose scored the first four goals of the quarter. Jeff Zywicki and Jarett Park scored goals within the first 1:31 of the quarter. Ryan Boyles and Luke Wiles added goals later in the quarter. With the game beginning to get out of control, Kevin Howard and Randy Daly cut the San Jose lead to three goals. Derek Malawsky added a shorthanded goal for San Jose to lift the halftime lead to 8-4.
The third quarter was a defensive struggle as both teams scored two goals each. Edmonton scored the first goal of the quarter one minute into the half cutting the San Jose lead to three. Both teams struggled to score, as San Jose regained the four goal lead over eight minutes later. Over the five minutes remaining in the quarter, the teams traded goals, to keep the lead at four entering the final quarter of the game.
The fourth quarter played out very silmilarly to the third quarter as scoring was once again at a premium. Ryan Boyle kicked off the fourth quarter scoring on a power play goal boosting the San Jose lead to five. Edmonton bounced back with three goals of their own to cut the lead to just two with just under six minutes to go. San Jose scored their second and final goal of the quarter o increase the lead to three. Edmonton though was not ready to give in even trailing by three with under a minute to go. Edmonton scored the final two goals of the game to cut the lead to one with 27 seconds to go.
Edmonton returns home on Friday for their showdown with Calgary. San Jose will stay at the HP Pavilion for a game next Saturday against the Calgary Roughnecks.
