Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Rush have added another forward during this hectic off-season with the free-agent signing of Kevin Olson (pending final league approval).
Olson, a 25-year-old from Vancouver, has previous NLL experience with the Colorado Mammoth and San Jose Stealth, earning four goals and three assists for seven points in five games.
Olson has excelled in the WLA with the Burnaby Lakers and this season finished fourth in the B.C. summer league scoring derby with 41 goals and 35 assists for 76 points in 18 games. He earned First Team All-Star recognition in 2005 and 2006 for notching seasons of 74 and 63 points respectively. Olson was also the WLA's Rookie of the Year in 2004 after a 57-point campaign.
"Kevin has a great stick and has always had a great ability to find the net," said Rush GM/Head Coach Paul Day. "There were a number of NLL teams that were looking at him very hard this off-season and we're very pleased that he is joining us."
Rush players lead Outlaws to title
Jimmy Quinlan and Ben Prepchuk of the Rush played big roles this past weekend in guiding the Sherwood Park Outlaws to the President's Cup championship for Canadian Senior B lacrosse in Owen Sound, Ont.
The Outlaws went a perfect 6-0 through the tournament which culminated in their 8-6 victory over the Ajax-Pickering Rock in the gold-medal game. Prepchuk, a Sherwood Park native who was traded to the Rush this off-season, stole the show in the final with four goals and two assists.
Quinlan, who is also from Sherwood Park, was named to the tournament's First All-Star Team and tied for the tournament lead in scoring with nine goals and 19 assists for 28 points. Prepchuk also had a hat trick in the 10-9 semifinal win over Owen Sound and finished with 10 goals – tops among the Outlaws.
The Outlaws roster also featured current Rush players Kevin Howard, Darren Hillier and Peter Gut and former Rush players including Chris Stachniak and Jon Marrese.
