Edmonton Rush GM/Head Coach Paul Day will be looking to the future when he gets down to business at the 2007 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.

The annual draft goes Saturday, Sept. 1 starting at 2 p.m. MT from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. Coverage of the Entry Draft is available live and free via webcast at www.nll.com powered by B2 Networks.

The Rush are without a first-round pick following two trades that have gone a long way to building the team at both ends of the floor for the 2008 NLL season. Edmonton's own pick - which would have been in the sixth overall spot - was traded in 2005 to Minnesota. After several follow-up moves, the trade ultimately brought Ben Prepchuk to the Rush this off-season.

Edmonton also received Arizona's 2007 first-round pick - slated for 13th overall - in another trade, but Day dealt that pick to New York during the '07 NLL season in exchange for goaltender and reigning Team MVP Curtis Palidwor.

The Rush have two second-round picks and Day will make his first selection at No. 20. Edmonton's next pick, which was acquired in a trade with Buffalo that also brought A.J. Shannon to the Rush, is at No. 25.

Day intends on making good use of those two second-rounders, particularly in a search for a right-handed forward and a solid defenceman.

"Ideally we'd like someone who is Canadian and went to school (in the NCAA) for four years and is now 22 or 23 years old or someone with two or three years experience of playing senior," noted Day.

The Rush's other picks are at No. 34 (Round 3), No. 48 (Round 4), No. 62 (Round 5) and No. 76 (Round 6).

With the later-round selections, Day is hoping to discover some developmental talent from the Alberta and B.C. junior leagues.

"I'd like a young righty forward or a defensive guy," said Day. "I'd love to get some size - a big strong defenceman who has a physical presence - and maybe get someone who can give us some faceoff help."
