Ben Prepchuk

In a move to add more offensive spark, the Edmonton Rush have acquired Ben Prepchuk from the Colorado Mammoth in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2007 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.

Prepchuk, a right-handed forward from Sherwood Park, is a six-year veteran who has played 84 career NLL games and totaled 120 goals and 121 assists for 241 points. He has also added 15 points (seven goals and eight assists) in seven career playoff games during which he helped Colorado win the 2006 Champions Cup.

"I'm ecstatic about finally getting Ben," said Rush GM/Head Coach Paul Day. "I've tried to make a deal with Colorado for him in the past and it never worked out. I'm very happy it worked out this time.

"We've been looking for a player like him and he provides us with strength and the ability to drive the net really well. He's going to play a lot, including on the power play, which is something I think he was missing on a veteran team like Colorado."

The Radford University grad broke into the pro ranks with the New York Saints who selected him third overall in the 2000 NLL Entry Draft. He earned 24 points in his rookie season but was dealt to the Calgary Roughnecks for the 2002 season. Prepchuk responded with his career-best year as he registered 40 goals and 38 assists for 78 points.

Prepchuk was traded to Colorado in 2003 and played four seasons for the Mammoth. In '03 he put up 21 goals and followed that with three 30-plus point seasons.

While with the Mammoth, Prepchuk certainly enjoyed playing in his hometown arena. In two games at Rexall Place over the past two seasons, he notched four goals and six assists against the Rush. Now the six-foot, 195-pounder will have the opportunity to play all his home games on the floor where he's had plenty of success.

And in coming to the Rush, Prepchuk is re-united with former Mammoth teammates Chris Gill and Dan Stroup as well as another familiar face, fellow Sherwood Park product Jimmy Quinlan.

"I think Ben will really flourish with the way we play," added Day. "We expect that he is going to put up some good numbers for us. He's going to get opportunities with us that he didn't get in Colorado and he already has some good chemistry with Stroup and Gill."

The Rush will host the 2008 NLL All-Star Game this year.  Full details will be available once the 2008 Season is announced.
