Edmonton, AB - Edmonton Rush goaltender Curtis Palidwor was named Defensive Player of the Week by the National Lacrosse League today for his efforts in last Friday's victory over the Toronto Rock.

Palidwor racked up 50 saves in the Rush's 12-9 win over the Rock - the first time in franchise history Edmonton has beaten Toronto.

“You're always happy to be recognized but the defence in front of me definitely deserves part of this award,” said Palidwor.

“They did a great job 5-on-5 of keeping the shots to the outside and our short man was knocking down balls left, right and centre. Their contribution was huge.”

Palidwor held the Rock to just four first-half goals and he then kept the Toronto shooters at bay until a late rally with the Rock utilizing an extra attacker.

“Curtis has been an all-star for us ever since he came over from New York,” noted A.J. Jomha, the Rush's Director of Lacrosse Operations and Assistant Coach.

“Making 50 saves in an important game like that was a big key to our success.”

Palidwor becomes the second member of the Rush to receive a weekly award from the NLL this season. Leading scorer Chris Gill was named Offensive Player of the Week for his eight-point game in the season opener against Philadelphia.

The Rush play the San Jose Stealth this Sunday, March 25 in San Jose at 6:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on 1260 The Team.
