Mike Hominuck

Edmonton, AB - Mike Hominuck of the Edmonton Rush was named the National Lacrosse League’s Offensive Player of the Week for a breakout debut with his new club.
Hominuck was acquired by the Rush last week in a trade with the Minnesota Swarm and made his first appearance in a Rush uniform in Saturday afternoon’s matchup with the defending NLL champion Rochester Knighthawks. Hominuck made the most of the occasion scoring three goals, including the game winner, and adding one assist in leading the Rush to their second straight victory in a 10-9 overtime decision.
“I had expected that Mike would be a great addition to the team and he certainly lived up to everyone’s expectations immediately – in fact he went well-beyond our wildest expectations,” said Rush GM/Head Coach Bob Hamley who made the move to acquire Hominuck.
Hominuck opened the scoring in the second half on a set up from Steve Hutchins and that got started the Rush’s comeback from a 6-3 halftime deficit. Hominuck returned the favour and set up a goal by Hutchins that brought the Rush within one goal late in the third quarter.
His second goal of the game – an unassisted marker to begin the fourth quarter - tied the score at 7-7. Hominuck then ended the night and sent the Rush into a celebration when he notched the OT winner 1:13 into the extra frame.
Hominuck is the seventh player in Rush franchise history to receive a weekly award from the NLL. This is also the second consecutive week of action for the Rush that players were honoured by the league. Following a road win in Portland, goaltender Curtis Palidwor was named Defensive Player of the Week and Hutchins was named Rookie of the Week for their roles in the 9-7 victory.
Earlier this season, Jimmy Quinlan received the Transition Player of the Week award.
Hominuck is the second Rush player in team history to receive the Offensive Player of the Week honour following up on Chris Gill who received the award after an eight-point performance in the 2007 season opener. Pat Campbell was named Defensive Player of the Week when the Rush picked up their only win during the 2006 campaign.
